Good Customer Service

Most people would say that people are quote “constant complainers” when they do not get or experience good customer service. But hold on before you go on and say you agree let’s just review what is good customer service. Is good customer service really important or is it all just nonsense.

You walk into a restaurant, coffee shop, store or any place that deals with the public. You are expecting yes, I did say the word expecting because we have expectations of a pleasant person greeting us regardless of how their day is going or any frown that we may have on our face. Yes the road to being nice can be a two way street however remember “we” are the customer to be serviced, kinda like a car going in for a tune up.

We don’t always get that experience of “good customer service” that leaves us wanting to come back or wanting more from this particular place. So what happened ? Well simply put our expectations and our needs were not met. Ok so maybe the needs for a delicious meal, delicious beverage, a good sale item etc were met but you know what our EMOTIONAL NEEDS were not met.

Emotional needs being met are more important than the delicious meal, the delicious beverage or finding good prices at the store. We are all human beings and despite if anyone says they are not emotional or care about how they are treated …… well what makes a person come back is that warm fuzzy feeling they get when they are around. Statistics have proven that the customer service of a restaurant is MORE important than the actual taste of the food. People will just not come back if the food is not absolutely delicious but they will talk and talk if the customer service is not up to their expectations.

Working in public requires a lot and my applause and cheers go to all who work and deal with the public. Customers can be rude, aloof or have 100 things on their agenda however it is still up to the employee working customer service in a restaurant, coffee shop, store etc to smile and be empathetic in a genuine way. Customer service can be tough but the easiest way to get through the job despite whatever we are going through is to remember “ it’s showtime “ .
