Marching up and down the streets shouting their disappointment and carrying signs people have expressed their hurt. Riots have happened in small cities and large cities all over the United States since the November 8, 2016. What are we to do as a country when people carry signs that say “not my president” referring to Donald Trump. What happens now ?
I will admit that at first I was completely surprised on November 8, 2016 when the results were announced. Then, I thought about it and well lots of people were reluctant to admit they were voting for Donald Trump. People not admitting they were voting for Donald Trump is the main reason that the statistics and polls were off and everyone including myself thought that Hillary Clinton was going to be the next President of the United States. I was standing in line on Day One of Early Voting at 7:00 am to say I am a Republican and happily voting for Hillary Clinton. Then on the evening of November 8, 2016 well I too was one of the people that shed a tear as she lost one state after another.
Now we are left with a divided country with people that do not want to forgive and forget. We are scared of the scare tactics that Donald Trump used to get elected. For example that
- Mr. Trump stated he was going to prosecute Hillary Clinton and on November 22, 2016 it was announced that Mr. Trump will not be going after Hillary Clinton
- Mr. Trump stated that he would build a wall to separate Mexico from the United States well actually I doubt that will happen in the near future because so many other foreign relations problems to deal with.
- Mr. Trump stated during his campaign that he was going to round up illegal immigrants and have them deported. People had visions of Nazis coming into Jewish populated areas and dragging them out AND THAT THE SAME THING WOULD HAPPEN to illegal immigrants. Well various cities have stated they will not be rounding up illegal immigrants and dragging them out to be deported.
In conclusion, WHAT are we scared of and what are all the protest about ? The answer is that Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, the people vote by 112, 000 votes and Donald Trump won the electoral vote. We, the people thought that it was all about us, the people without remembering that we the people have a higher power, the electoral votes. On December 18, 2016 the electoral voters meet to confirm their electoral votes. Hey, I’m one of the Hillary Voters in line Day One of Early Voting at 7:00 am and I was just as hurt and disappointed BUT LIFE GOES ON ……… being able to ADAPT is one of the greatest qualities in life. Ok, so maybe he Donald Trump is not the choice of many people but as grown up adults, not as children who have a tantrum when they don’t get their way but as grown up adults we have got to be able to ADAPT, say LIFE GOES ON and WORK TOGETHER.
